ALS, 1839 March 9 : Philadelphia, [PA] to Alfred Cope.

In a message to the legislature, Gov. Porter accuses banks of conspiring to injure the state's credit when they did not put up money for loan to the state. Porter recommends selling these banks' stocks; discussion of various people's health including Daniel Wheeler's; on trade with Europe; Alfred Cope's presence as a Quaker in the slave states may provoke adverse attention.
